For the love of story
For everyone whose RP partner vanished mid-thread
Somewhere out there is a thread you still think about. Two hundred posts of slow-burn collaborative fiction, a character you loved, a partner who matched your energy post for post... and then, one day, nothing. Every forum roleplayer has a ghost story. This page is about the part of the hobby that doesn't have to ghost.
Every roleplayer has a ghost story
The thread was ALIVE. You checked it before school, after work, refreshing for the reply that took three days and was worth all three. You and a stranger built people together... post order respected, godmodding forbidden, one paragraph minimum, no one-liners.
And then the reply didn't come. No fight, no ending. Just a last post sitting there, mid-scene, forever. Search your feelings: you can still name the character. Maybe the thread.
Forum RP taught a very specific craft... writing HALF a story and leaving room for someone else's half. That craft is exactly what midona wants from you.
What carries over
| On the forum | In mi·do·na |
|---|---|
| The character sheet thread | A character card: history, voice, samples |
| The RP prompt / opening post | A scene: setting, situation, first beat |
| Post order | Turns... yours, then theirs, always |
| No godmodding | The cast controls their characters, you control yours |
| Three days between replies | Three seconds. Or three days... it waits |
| The ghosted thread | Doesn't happen. The scene is always live |
Your paragraphs are welcome here. Long-form, third-person, past-tense literary RP... the cast matches the register you set instead of dragging you to one-liners.
What midona honestly is not
It is not a person on the other end, and that cuts both ways. The thing that made the great threads great was another MIND... a partner whose choices you genuinely couldn't predict, who'd been thinking about the scene at their day job too. An AI cast is consistent, tireless, and often surprising, but it isn't a stranger falling in love with the same story you are. The hobby's social half... the OOC thread, the inside jokes, the friend you still talk to fifteen years later... stays human.
What midona replaces is the WAITING, and the ghosting, and the premise that died because the forum did. The half-a-story craft is yours either way.
The part where nothing leaves your machine
Forum RP lives on servers that vanish... the archive purge, the host that stopped paying, ten years of threads gone with a 404. midona keeps the story on YOUR machine: it's a client for a local model running through Ollama, LM Studio, koboldcpp, or llama.cpp, and your scenes live in your browser. No forum to die. No mod reading your threads. No ghost story.
The reply always comes.
Bring the character you never got to finish, open the scene, and write your half. Local model, your machine, no ghosts.
